Twitter Hacked, Thousands Passwords Exposed

Tens of thousands of usernames and passwords on social networking Twitter exposed on Tuesday (May 8, 2012). All username and password were posted to a website to share programming code Pastebin.com. Quoted from Computerworld, there are at least 58.978 username and password are published in the Pastebin. Because of the many, these data published in Pastebin split into 5 pages. These data sent by an anonymous Pastebin user account.

Currently, Twitter still investigating how the breaker (hacker) can breaks security of Twitter, and get tens of thousands of that 140 characters micro-blogging sites account.

In beginning investigation, Twitter spokesman Robert Weeks said, there are many usernames and passwords are duplicated. "It's worth noting that, so far, we've discovered that the list of alleged accounts and passwords found on Pastebin consists of more than 20,000 duplicates, many spam accounts that have already been suspended, and many log-in credentials that do not appear to be linked (that is, the password and username are not actually associated with each other)," Weeks said to CNet.

Caused by action of that unknown hacker, Twitter suggest users to change passwords. To technology site CNet Robert Weeks said, "We are currently looking into the situation. In the meantime, we have pushed out password resets to accounts that may have been affected,"

"For those who are concerned that their account may have been compromised, we suggest resetting your passwords and more in our Help Center", he added.

Twitter not yet asking the Pastebin to remove the list of usernames and passwords. Until this article published, a list which split into 5 pages is still there.
