Robot Prison Guard Start Assignment in South Korean Prison

This robot will replace the the task of prison guard came on duty patrolling around the jail and watched the prisoners. As reported by Reuters on Friday (4/20/2012), sensors on the robot with a height of 1.5 meters is studying the behavior of the prisoners. Running on four wheels, robot prison guard will monitor the state prison, to detect unusual behavior of the prisoners and to report if anyone tries to run away, commit suicide or violence.

In addition the sensors, the robot is also equipped with 3D camera, microphone, speaker and software designed to gauge a prisoner's emotional state. Two-way communications capabilities allowing them to charge information to the warden. This robot can also be controlled via the iPad.

This robot developed by the Asian Forum For Corrections and part of the Ministry of Economy Knowledge and the Ministry Justice project and cost up to one billion won. How the guards robot do its job? Can be seen on the video link below.
